The Wedding Helpers

Back in August, our dear friends Will and Elaina invited us to their wedding. We knew that they would be hosting the wedding on their property and doing most of the work of preparing themselves (as opposed to hiring out). It was a given that we would make ourselves available to help them with the setup and cleanup. We arrived at 10Am the day before the wedding full of verve and ready to assist! We had spent the previous 3 nights at campgrounds independent of any other people and had honestly struggled with the lack of purpose and boredom that accompanied that lifestyle. It is hard for us to rest when we don't feel that we've earned that rest. Additionally, our inexperience with van life lead to a lot of inefficiency and miscommunication between us, which frustrates both of us a great deal. All that to say, being put to work was exactly what we needed and it was exactly what we got. We worked all day in 90 degree weather with Will, Elaina, and a few other friends. There were a lot of moving parts, but we slowly started to see everything pull together.

Max built the Arbor under which our friends would be wed. It was also an excellent pull up bar.

At the end of the day we collapsed into our van and prepared for a celebration the next day.

The next day was somehow even more hectic than the previous one. There were many more moving parts and about 10 times as many people. It was particularly fun for me to help with the finishing touches on the decorations. Max was assigned the role of "fire warden" by Will and took his responsibilities very seriously.

about an hour before the party started max and I retired to our van to reset, recover, and prepare our minds for a celebration!

Then it was time to celebrate the union of our friends. It was a beautiful ceremony. Both Max and I shed tears, we laughed, and felt all the love.

We are so grateful to have played such a large role in this important moment in our friends lives. They are beautiful souls and have been such a wonderful example of a loving and powerful couple. We look up to their work-ethic both in the work that they are willing to do within their relationship and the external products that they produce (such as this stunning celebration). Thank you Will and Elaina. We have so much to learn from you and hopefully many more beautiful moments to share together.
