Dlog: Deland Nomad Commune

 March 11th - March 24th

We spent this two week period parked in the yard of some new friends! We met two couples at VanFest, one of whom lived in Deland, FL (Dani and Troy) and another who were traveling in a skoolie (Kirstyn and Jeff) and would be in Florida for the next few weeks. A few coordinating text messages is all it took to arrange a meetup at Dani and Troy's house in Deland.

Their house is located on a jutted out corner between two diverging roads. They have this massive live oak sprawling loftily above their front yard and a sizable backyard which is currently in the process of being turned into a steel building workshop for Troy. The first few days were full of "hang-time" (a term Max and I picked up from a Matthew McConaughey audiobook). Most of the time, all we did was nothing together. However, we did have a nightly ritual called "commune dinner" where each of us cooked dinner separately, allowing everyone to adhere to their dietary restrictions/preferences, then we would gather around Dani and Troy's dining room table and eat together. We also did yoga, fixed cars, made pottery, went to Costco, meditated, played on the slackline, saw the red full moon, and watched our animals play around.

We had a couple group outings during this time. We went to the local night market and all got some oysters, we went to the Daytona Speedway for the Spring Car Parts Swap and Car Show, and we visited a bonsai nursery!

Super grateful to have had all this time to just hang out and build up some really special friendships in the process.
